Alabama Music Hall of Fame
 

This museum is ideal for those who love music and music history. The Alabama Music Hall of Fame showcases Alabamians who have had a great impact on the music industry.

Sunday: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. May through October

Children's Museum of the Shoals

The Children's Museum of the Shoals has many exhibits and programs for kids to encourage creativity and intellectual growth. A playground and walking trails are located at Deibert Park, which is adjacent to the museum.

Coon Dog Cemetery

The Key Underwood Coon Dog Memorial Graveyard contains over 185 graves, beginning with “Troop” in 1937.

Helen Keller’s Birthplace (Ivy Green)

Helen Keller’s Birthplace is world-renowned as the place where Anne Sullivan helped Helen Keller, the “First Lady of Courage,” learn to communicate with the outside world.

Hours of Operation
Monday -- Saturday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Last tour starts at 3:45 p.m. daily

This mound was built by Indians that lived along the Tennessee River thousands of years ago. The museum houses Indian artifacts.

The Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts is an art gallery, educational facility, and the center for the promotion of cultural events such as Arts Alive in downtown Florence.

LaGrange College Site Park & Antebellum Cemetery

The LaGrange College Site Park is the site of Alabama’s first college, which was established in 1830. Although the college was destroyed in the Civil War, the site features an antebellum cemetery, log-cabin museum, country store, bed and breakfast, and outbuildings.

Pope's Tavern Museum

Pope’s Tavern has served as a tavern, an inn, a stagecoach stop, and a hospital during the U.S. Civil War. Pope’s Tavern Museum exhibits antiques, items from the U.S. Civil War, as well as pioneer artifacts.

Rosenbaum House by Frank Lloyd Wright

The Rosenbaum House is the only house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in Alabama and open to the public in the southeast region.

Tennessee Valley Museum of Art

The Tennessee Valley Museum of Art supports arts in The Shoals through art exhibitions, art competitions, workshops, and an educational outreach program. It houses the Martin Petroglyph, featuring ancient sandstone carvings.

The “Father of the Blues”, William Christopher Handy, was born in Florence in 1873. The W.C. Handy Home and Museum has an outstanding collection of memorabilia from W.C. Handy’s life.
