American Excelsior
Company® Announces Expansion at Its Fiberex Division in Florence
|
|
The
City
of Florence and the Shoals
Economic Development Authority welcomed area leaders
to a public announcement today at American
Excelsior/Fiberex in the Florence-Lauderdale
Industrial Park. American Excelsior Company® announced plans to
expand its Fiberex Division operation in Florence where the company
produces a line of specialty wood fiber products used in the craft,
floral, gift, display, silk tree, and erosion control markets. |

Terry Sadowski,
President/CEO
of American Excelsior Company®, Receives a Great Seal of Alabama from Gary
Faulkner, Alabama Development Office
|
The company
recently purchased an adjoining 30,000-square-foot warehouse where
the company plans to install new state-of-the-art equipment to
produce a variety of straw and coconut erosion
control products used to reduce erosion and sediment. These
products will be marketed under the company's brand names Premier
Straw® and Premier Coconut®.
The Florence location was chosen due to
their market proximity for current customers and other American
Excelsior Company® distribution sites located in North Carolina,
Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Texas. Bobby
Swindle, General Manager of the Fiberex Division was quoted as
saying:
"We're
proud to announce this expansion as we enter our 21st year of
operation in Florence. This will add 24 new jobs at our
plant. It's a great time to be in business in Florence as
Mayor Bobby Irons has developed a very aggressive pro-business
policy. Our goal is to build market dominance in production
and distribution in our region and to support the company goal of
being the industry leader for erosion and sediment control
devices. We gratefully acknowledge that a number of area
people helped with this project, which included Bobby Irons, Mayor
of the City of Florence; Forrest Wright, Executive Director, Shoals
Economic Development Authority; Susie Heird, Assistant Director,
Shoals Economic Development Authority; Clint Wilkes, Chairman,
Florence Industrial Development Board; and, Gary Faulkner, Senior
Economic Development Representative, Alabama Development
Office."

SCA Tissue Receives
2006
Pollution Prevention Award
|
|

Gary Ellis, Ombudsman, ADEM, presents a P2 Award to Jim Haeffele, Director of Southeast Operations,
SCA
|
SCA Tissue North
America--Barton Operations has once again been honored by
the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) for its
outstanding environmental practices.
The SCA facility in the
Barton Riverfront Industrial Park received a 2005 Achievement Award
in Pollution Prevention (P2) for demonstrating the environmental
benefits of pollution prevention techniques and practices through
individual projects and activities. These innovative pollution
prevention, recycling and reuse practices save energy and help
reduce or eliminate environmental contaminants.
The company reduced inert waste sent
to landfills by 70 percent while achieving savings associated with
disposal fees. An additional benefit to the community was the
reduction of airborne vehicle emissions from trucks hauling on and
off site.
"We congratulate SCA Tissue for
achieving meaningful pollution reduction through its efficient
management and use of resources," said ADEM Director Trey
Glenn. "This success story will encourage other companies
to embrace pollution prevention as the preferred method of doing
business."
Robin Wood, Utilities & Environmental
Manager, SCA, expressed appreciation to SCA employees,
"We are very proud of our Barton Environmental Awareness Team
as well as all of the Barton employees for making this recycling
program a huge success. Without our excellent employees and
team members, we couldn't have done it." Group
