| Listerhill Total Maintenance Center Adding Capabilities | ||||||||||||||||||
Listerhill
Total Maintenance Center (Listerhill TMC) will be giving its
present and future customers a whole new level of
maintenance service in the coming weeks, thanks to the
purchase and installation of two very large pieces of
maintenance equipment: a lathe and a boring mill.
With the foundation for the lathe already completed, the
lathe is being assembled and aligned and should be ready for
power-up and testing in the next two weeks. During
this time, construction of the foundation for the boring
mill will begin. The lathe, powered by a 155 HP DC motor and controlled by an Allen-Bradley CNC control, will be 46 feet between centers and will be capable of turning parts as large as 12.5 feet in diameter. With two 50-ton hydrostatic steady rests, the lathe will have a total capacity of 100 tons. Chip Flournoy, president and COO of Listerhill TMC, anticipates how the new equipment will enhance the maintenance services offered by Listerhill TMC: "We've always had a great facility with skilled craftsmen and supervisors to perform a variety of quality repairs and fabrication. What we've been missing are some critical upgrades to our machining capabilities. The lathe is one in a series of about seven capability upgrades that we expect to complete this year. Together, they will help TMC become a more full-service shop for all of our customers. For instance, the lathe will enable us to provide more complete service to power producers, metals industries, and paper industries." Listerhill TMC has provided its customers with high-quality, cost-effective maintenance services since 2003. By adding the large-scale lathe and boring mill to its 150,000-square-foot, full-crane-capacity facility, Listerhill TMC is poised to continue growing and providing top-quality service to its customers in the coming years. | Florence City Schools Rated as a Top School District in the U.S. | ||||||||||||||||||
|
The
Florence City School
District has been rated as one of the top public school districts in the
United States by Expansion Management magazine. The magazine
evaluated a total of 2,819 school districts with 3,300 or more students and
rated the districts based on their Education Quotient. The school
districts are ranked as Gold Medal, Blue Ribbon, Green Flag, Yellow Flag, or
Red Flag. The Florence City School District is rated as a Blue Ribbon
school district, which means that it ranked in the top 33% of school
districts evaluated. For companies searching for a new location, the quality of the workforce is a key consideration. By achieving a high ranking, the Florence City School District demonstrates the type of effort needed to attract quality companies to The Shoals. After achieving the Blue Ribbon rating, Florence City Schools will continue to seek improvement. Kendy Behrends, superintendent of the school system, said, "Florence City Schools will work toward earning the Gold designation. School quality is of utmost importance to companies looking to relocate." An educated and motivated workforce puts The Shoals in a much better position to grow and provide more and better jobs for its citizens. Congratulations to the Florence City School District for a job well-done! Click here to read the article at Expansion Management online. |
