 ABOUT THE SHOALS
Situated on the banks of the Tennessee River, the Shoals area of Northwest Alabama has
a rich history and an excellent quality of life. The area is served by highly rated public
and private K-12 schools, as well as a four-year university and a community college.
There are four adjacent cities nestled in the hills of Northwest Alabama, on the banks
of the Tennessee River, that offer their citizens an enviable sense of safety and comfort.
The cities of Florence, Muscle Shoals, Sheffield, and Tuscumbia combine to form a dynamic
community that has a great deal to offer.
A mix of manufacturing, service industries, retail, medical,
and financial institutions
give The Shoals stability and strength. This is a shopping and medical hub for the
tri-state area.
The four major cities of the Shoals - Florence, Muscle Shoals, Tuscumbia and Sheffield -
make up the Florence-Muscle Shoals metropolitan statistical area (MSA), which is the sixth largest population
center in Alabama. The area offers numerous opportunities for business investment and enhanced
quality of life. Our community hosts numerous festivals and events throughout the year including
the NCAA Division II Championship Football Game.
