FreightCar America: The Toughest Mile
FreightCar America - Shoals opened in 2008 and is located in the Barton Riverfront Industrial Park in Cherokee. The state-of-the-art production facility was designed to build a wide variety of railcar types. FreightCar commenced operations in February 2013, subleasing 25% of the plant from Navistar. In February 2018, FreightCar announced the acquisition of Navistar's assets and is now the sole tenant of the 2.2-million-square-foot facility.
